Question 1:
Do you have any foreign friends and do you think having foreign friends is a good way to know other countries?
解题思路:
本题在问: 你有没有外国朋友,以及你认为外国朋友是不是了解其他国家的好方法。在回答时需要使用 表示肯定、否定的句式进行正面回应。词汇上可以对 know other countries 进行细化。
Sample Answer:
I do have a couple of friends that I made back in college and we still keep in touch nowadays. Well, I think foreign friends can definitely be a good source. I mean, they are native and have lived in their countries for decades, so they must know different aspects of their countries, like food and festivals. But the problem is, your friends' impressions of their home countries can be limited therefore you may find it hard to learn about their countries from the whole picture. Say, your American friend who was born and raised in New York may not necessarily know much about the Midwest, which is, in their eyes, middle of nowhere. So, yes, can be a good way, but it does have its own limitations.
Question 2:
Do you think it’s important to know the culture and language before going to another country?
解题思路:
本题在问: 你认为在前往其他国家之前了解它的文化和语言是否重要。在回答时需要使用表示肯定、否 定的句式进行正面回应,并使用引导结果的句型和 if/when 引导的条件状语从句串联回答。
Sample Answer:
That's an interesting question. Well, language-wise, I don't think it's necessary. I mean, nowadays, you can simply use a translation app to help with any verbal communication. There are plenty of apps like such in AppStore and some even come with voice input, which makes things a lot easier. And, even if sometimes the translation is not accurate, you can pretty much get by. But when it comes to culture, I think getting to know the basics can help. It's not just to show respect to that country and the people, but also to avoid culture shock. For example, if you don't do research on Greece, you won't know that thumbs up are extremely rude in Greek culture and things can get awkward. So, yeah, I would say learning something about the country you want to visit is a good idea.
Question 3:
What do you think of people who work in international companies?
解题思路:
本题在问:你如何看待那些比较在国际公司工作的人,其实就是在问你的评价。你可以正面、负面两个 角度讨论自己的看法。
Sample Answer:
Well, if you work for an international company, you definitely get to experience other cultures, and this can, in turn, help you think from very different perspectives. Also, I guess they might love traveling because you get the opportunity to take business trips around the globe. Or, if they don't like to visit, they must be able to tolerate loneliness as they will be separated from their family. I mean, you can make friends in another country, but it still feels different when you're surrounded by foreigners.
Question 4:
What abilities do people need to have when working in an international company?
Sample Answer:
Well, first of all, they need to speak that country's language. They don't need to be proficient in that language by any means, but they should be fluent enough to prevent the language barrier from affecting the company's workflow. Other than that, they should respect other cultures and religions, which is essential when you want to be a member of a culturally diverse organization. In addition to this, I think sometimes, you will need to be familiar with two sets of standards and you need to be familiar with converting one to the other. For example, in most countries, we use the metric system to measure things, but in countries like the US, they still use imperial units, so if you want to work for an American company, you need to know how to convert meters into feet and kilograms to pounds, and vice versa.
