Describe a time when you moved to a new school or home You should say:
· When you moved
· Where you moved from and to
· Why you moved
And explain how you felt about this move.

Sample Answer
On reading this topic card, I can’t stop thinking about moving to America for my exchange year when I was a junior in university, which totally changed my thought and made me a different person in a good way.
In June 2015, I was selected by Beijing government as one of the distinguished local students to be sent abroad for a year’s exchange program. I spent two months preparing my IELTS score, passport, and visa. Then within the last 5 days I packed 3 suitcases of clothes and books. I came to University of South Carolina. On Aug 18th, the day my life started to change.
The first major change after moving there was on my study. Before, I was used to the Chinese traditional classes which usually included teacher’s lecture without peer activities. But during my exchange year, each class was different in its own form. For example, my nutrition class was
survey-based, which required us to go to grocery stores and look at food labels as assignment. My Finance class was task-based. In each class we choose one group’s aspect and solve their real-world problems.
The classes engaged my interest, spurred discussion, and made me realize for the same knowledge, there’re alternative ways to a
lecture-based class. So, I learnt the most important of all: how to learn.
Life after moving there was also very different. The sponsorship from the government came quite late, so I had to find a part-time job in a coffee shop. I also needed to make contact with my residence hall staff and dealt with housing issues. It was my first time to deal with study, work and life all by myself, and it improved my time management.
All in all, it was a happy and fruitful year after moving there, and I cherish all the lessons and experience learned from it.
