There is an argument that society can benefit more provided that more people are devoted to learning business than history. Even though the knowledge of production and trade can boost economy, I disagree with this opinion for two major reasons.
With more people involved in business study, social economy will improve. Those who have finished learning business can either play their roles in major corporations - earning decent income and making considerable profits for their employers - or start up their own businesses, both of which can bring about sufficient revenue, employment and prosperity to society. In addition, the more knowledge of finance people possesses, the better management of individual wealth and consultation to others they can offer. As a result, consumption is guaranteed and citizens can withstand more economic risks.
However, without the reference of history, economy cannot pull through its destiny. We should all be aware that business has its own peak and trough through a certain period of time - known as Business Cycle. Only when economy is facing its recession or depression can those having learnt history be attached to great importance because they know the means to revive economy. The study of the past events allows us the contemporary to employ the wisdom and experience of predecessors.
What is more, history does not serve merely for economy revival, but helps build better citizenship. First, it teaches morals and values. By looking back at specific events and historical figures, people can comprehend how the morality and principals have worked in the past and see through its cause and effect. Second, it passes down traditions and beliefs, from which the nation or the civilization is formed. Last, it seems to have a possible function that governors can notice clear warning signs and may not commit repeated mistakes.
All in all, the argumentation should be disapproved as business study makes economy thrive in a short period while history research can save the recessionary situation and provides more for the society.
