大作文
In some countries, some small town-center shops are going out of business because customers are shopping at large out-of-town stores. As a result, some poeple without cars have limited access to shops, and there may be an increase in the use of cars. Do the disadvantages outweigh the advantages?
Suburban shopping complexesand supermarkets have succeeded in crowdingthe urban grocery stores outof business as they provide certain benefits to consumers, but drawbacks of this phenomenon like the more use of vehicles and the inconvenience brought to those without private cars are also worth mentioning. The pros and cons are analysed and compared in the following passage.
Admittedly, part of the society and individuals involved are enjoying its advantages. The most apparent gain is that heavy traffic in thedowntown areais relieved as shoppers for food and daily necessitieshas altered their destination to suburbs. Another favor that such shopping centers provide a whole selection of commodityis recognized by tourists and loadedshoppers who are willing to do their holiday and grocery shopping in one place where their annual and weekly domestic needs are met.
However, it is not fair for people in disadvantageoussituations and problematicin the long term. For customers relying on public transport, they will have to either lift the heavy packages on and off the public carriage after their purchase or be faced with the fact that nearby convenient shops sell expensive stuff with very limited range. Comparing to the past time of being able to shop near workplace or home, rural supermarkets encourage the extra mileage of cars, which eventually may give rise totraffic congestionaround the outskirts of towns and more serious emission of exhaust gas–aggravating air pollution by time.
In conclusion, despite the wide range of goods to choose and the negligiblerelief of town center traffic - this part of traffic actually being shifted to outlying districts, this change deprives the convenience of life and may cost us dear but inconspicuouslyin life as well as in environment.
