Part 3 Information and Misinformation 1
Question 1: Do you think that people are more likely to believe true or false information these days? Why or why not?
Sample Answer:
Yes! I firmly believe that people who rely on social media as their main source of news are more likely to believe true, false or unproven stories about important topics such as politics, private life of celebrities. I mean, it has been a growing source with both graphs and data in the digital age, which makes it seem more trustworthy. Besides, the fast-pace life today is making it even hard to spare time to tell the right or wrong, I have to say, sadly, this is how the cyber world works.
Question 2: Have you ever come across a piece of information that you later found out to be false? How did you feel about it?
Sample Answer:
I’m afraid yes. Actually, it still makes me shiver as the thought of this experience. I mean, last week, me and my friend were on a car journey in a small town nearby, listening to the music and feeling extremely at ease. All of a sudden, my friend pulled the car over because right in front of us was broken bridge, like the cliff. Apparently, the height difference was neglected by the E-map. I mean, if we kept driving, we could fall of the bridge, that literally puts me in a sweat until now.
Question 3: In your opinion, what are some of the consequences of misinformation in society?
Sample Answer:
Let me see, miss misinformation may absolutely lead to terrible results in the society. The first thing must be the spread of false or discredited science, for example the anti-vax movements in some social media platforms. This might present a hazard to the public health, especially the children. The public platforms could be filled with harmful conspiracy theories and hate speech between genders races and even age groups. That would definitely lead to conflicts and bullying behaviors in the world.
