Do you like to celebrate important events? Why?

Sample Answer:
I really enjoy celebrate these important events, like festivals, birthdays or graduations. I think the main reason would be that my everyday life is just so boring, so I would take every opportunity I’ve got to make myself feel happy and excited or to spend some quality time with families and friends. For instance, if I haven’t met a friend for a while, her birthday would be a natural excuse for me to reconnect with her. And I could also have a great time preparing the perfect gift for her.

What kinds of events do people usually celebrate?

People usually celebrate important festivals, since celebration is a great way to learn about and spread the local culture. For example, parents would teach their kids about the history and customs of Spring Festival, by celebrating it with other relatives. What’s more, people also celebrate milestones of their personal life, such as their birthday, graduation from university, wedding anniversary and so on. They commemorate these days to remind each other how excited and proud they were at that time or how lucky they were to meet each other.

Do people often celebrate events with a large group of people or just a few people?

Well, it depends. For some big or national events, people tend to celebrate with a large group of people. For instance, for the Lantern Festival, people usually see the parade on the street and even follow the parade with other inhabitants in the city. And it would be too lonely to celebrate the victory of their favourite football team with only two friends. But for some personal events, like birthdays or anniversaries, it would be weird to share the moment with people they are not familiar with, so people tend to celebrate in a small party.

Do people often celebrate festivals with families?

Yes, in China, people get together with families for almost every festival, including Spring Festival, Mid- autumn Festival, and even Tomb-sweeping Day. Sine everyone is going home on that day, you would feel extremely lonely if you don’t do the same. That’s why a lot of ancient poets wrote beautiful poems to express their homesickness on special holidays. Luckily, thanks to the development of technology, now people could Facetime their families if they are physically apart from each other.
