  “食物”和“吃”这两个生存必备元素经常出现在雅思口语中。什么“难忘的一餐”啊,“外国食物”,“第一次吃某物的经历”啊,或者考察吃的地点,“饭店”啦“咖啡厅”啦,总之,有关食物和吃的语料,一定必不可少。

  下面来分享个吃榴莲的故事,相信大家应该都是这么爱上榴莲的……

This topic reminds of the first time I ate durian.

I first tried it when I was a naughty and disrespectful girl. At that time, I used to think those who eat durian were idiots, ‘cause it was the most disgusting fruit I’d ever known. I mean, they smell like poop, and the flesh looks like poop as well.

Once, my mom was eating durian. I went up to her and started to tease her. I was like, ‘Why would you eat something so gross and ugly. They say you are what you eat, do you want to look like this?’ My mom said, ‘You’ve never tried one bite of this, didn’t I teach you not to judge a book by its cover? Believe it or not, it tastes like heaven!’

Obviously, I didn’t buy it. I even said to my mom ‘I’ll never eat poop!’ which I know now is super inappropriate and offensive. Suddenly, she became furious, and she was like, ‘Watch your language!’, and as a punishment, she forced me to finish eating the rest of the durian on the plate, which is a weird punishment, I know.

I stuck out my tongue and licked it carefully. Oddly enough, it was pretty sweet. So I just took one bite. And amazingly, it just melted in my mouth. I realized how stupid I was, and I sincerely apologized to my mom.

That was how I fell in love with this fruit.

idiot = a very stupid person = fool

When I lost my passport, I felt such an idiot.

  Not that switch, you idiot!

tease = to laugh at somebody and make jokes about them, either in a friendly way or in order to annoy or embarrass them例如:

Don't get upset—I was only teasing.

I used to get teased about my name.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. = (saying) used to say that you should not form an opinion about somebody / something from their appearance only

believe it or not = (informal) used to introduce information that is true but that may surprise people例如:

Believe it or not, he asked me to marry him!

buy something = (informal) to believe that something is true, especially something that is not very likely例如:

You could say you were ill but I don't think they'd buy it (= accept the explanation).

Oddly = used to show that something is surprising = surprisingly

She felt, oddly, that they had been happier when they had no money.

Oddly enough, the most expensive tickets sold fastest.
