I’d like to talk about a theme song of a popular anime series called Slam Dunk, which goes like …(哼起来) Sorry, I might be a little out of tune. Anyway, when I was in primary school, that song went viral among young children, even though it was a Japanese song, almost all of us can sing it, if not, at least we were all familiar with the melody. That was a song about basketball, about friendship and team spirit, which was something appealed to every kid. I’m sure I fell in love with basketball because of the song and the cartoon. Each class break and after school, a bunch of us would run down the stairs to the basketball court. Back then, we didn’t have much proper training and guidance, we just imitated the movements of those characters in the cartoon. And like I said, almost everybody in my school were obsessed with basketball, whether boys or girls. So the best thing about playing basketball was, when I was on the court, there would always be a crowd of girls cheering for me.
Back in those years, that song was basically played by every CD store on the street and on the play-list in our mp3 player. The melody was uplifting and encouraging, it just never seemed to get old. Whenever I hear the song, it always reminds me of my hot-blooded/passionate childhood and all those crazy things we did back then.
I’d like to talk about my basketball, which was a gift from my dad on my 10th birthday. Back then, there was a basketball-themed anime series, which was very popular among our schoolmates. Almost everybody watched it after school. So I think that’s when I started to fall in love with playing basketball. Each class break and after school, a bunch of us would run down the stairs to the basketball court.
And my dad noticed my passion for basketball, so on my 10th birthday, he gave me a big surprise. It was a super cool basketball, just like the one in the cartoon, with the logo of my favorite team. From then on, it became my first love and company. I just couldn’t help showing it off in front of my playmates. Now I still keep it in my closet, it always reminds me of my passionate childhood.
