I’d like to talk about the CCTV headquarters in Beijing, which is very eye-catching because of the unique appearance.
It’s not a traditional skyscraper which people would expect to see in most central business districts. It looks like a person who's sitting on the toilet, (unbelievable, I know.) so it has a nickname called underpants. Ever since it was built, it has become the laughing stock for the public. People on the social network wouldn’t stop criticizing it, even the local news would joke about this.
If you ask me, I think it's completely a waste of money. Many experts gave it a very professional assessment, saying that this building was a challenge to aesthetics, and the structure of the building is unreasonable. Plus, it's also a safety hazard, I mean, when the building is on fire, it's very hard for people in it to escape or survive because of the ridiculous layout. And just due to this reason, the contractor need to spend a lot of extra money to solve this problem.
People say our government hired a bunch of so-called professional foreign designers to make all this happen, but apparently, it didn’t turn out the way we wanted. I think China's architects and designers should be more confident. And our government is supposed to have more faith in our own designers as well.
